Abstract:
Because narcolepsy with cataplexy is a chronic condition that often begins in adolescence, most patients are adults and an increasing number are elderly.
Although the condition has a fairly stable course in most people after the first few years from debut, there are different needs and options for behavioural counselling and medication at different life stages. Factors of influence include educational situation, work situation, pregnancy and pregnancy wish, comorbidity, mobility, etc.
In addition, attention to problems outside sleep such as obesity, concentration problems, anxiety and mood problems and fatigue is important. As is outlining realistic expectations of non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatment.
