Abstract:
Non-wearable physiological monitoring, including millimeter-wave radar and fiber optic physiological monitoring technologies, detects patterns of chest movements during sleep to identify abnormal sleep breathing events. This serves as a tool for screening abnormal breathing patterns such as sleep apnea. Moreover, this monitoring can detect specific breathing patterns indicative of cardiac dysfunction, for example, Cheyne-Stokes respiration in patients with heart failure. Additionally, it can distinguish different sleep stages based on the regularity of respiratory rate, including slow-wave sleep. By collecting respiratory and cardiac signals, this technology could extend to other applications, serving as a platform and system for comprehensive home care of chronic respiratory diseases.
