Abstract:
Human behaviors can be assessed using various wearable devices. Actigraphy, measured by inertial sensors, is a standard tool for evaluating sleep patterns and circadian rhythms in sleep medicine. Among wearable devices, smartphones are the most widely used and integral to daily life. This talk will explore how smartphone usage data can be leveraged to derive digital biomarkers and examine their relationships with clinical conditions such as insomnia and depressive symptoms. Furthermore, we will discuss quantifying social-physical coherence—synchrony between social and physical engagements—by merging physical activity insights from actigraphy with social engagement data obtained from smartphone interactions. This approach enhances our understanding of the interplay between social and physical activities and may provide complementary insights in the field of sleep medicine.
