Abstract: |
MFT is a therapeutic approach that involves exercises to improve the function of the muscles of the face, mouth, and throat. It aims to correct improper muscle function and tongue posture that can contribute to various orofacial disorders, including OSA. MFT can be used as an adjunct therapy for OSA by strengthening the oropharyngeal muscles and improving airway patency.
Therapeutic Exercises:
Tongue Exercises: Designed to strengthen the tongue muscles and promote proper positioning.
Lip Exercises: Improve lip seal and strength.
Chewing and Swallowing Exercises: Enhance the coordination and function of the muscles involved in chewing and swallowing.
Benefits:
Improved Airway Function: Enhances muscle tone in the upper airway, reducing the likelihood of collapse during sleep.
Better Dental Health: Promotes proper jaw development and alignment.
Enhanced Speech and Swallowing: Improves clarity of speech and efficiency of swallowing.
Effectiveness:
Studies have shown that MFT can significantly reduce the severity of OSA and improve quality of life for patients
