| Abstract: |
| Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a heterogeneous disorder, and the apnea-hypopnea index alone does not adequately capture individual cardiometabolic risk. Emerging evidence suggests that nocturnal hypoxemia, sleep characteristics, symptom profiles, metabolic dysfunction, and inflammation may identify clinically meaningful OSA phenotypes with different cardiovascular risks and treatment responses. This presentation will review current approaches to cardiometabolic phenotyping in OSA and explore how these characteristics may help identify patients most likely to benefit from treatment. Moving beyond an AHI-centered approach may enable more precise risk stratification and support personalized treatment strategies aimed at improving cardiovascular and metabolic outcomes. |
